Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (RMMA) has named Erick Alan Dahl as its new airport director, following a comprehensive selection process. Boasting over 20 years of experience in aviation management and operations, Dahl intends to guide RMMA with a fortified focus on community and stakeholder relations.
Dahl’s career has seen him as an Aeronautical Analyst at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and also as Airport Director at St. Louis Downtown Airport. His competencies encompass operations, planning and construction, information technology, and community engagement. He shared, “It is my privilege to serve as Airport Director at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport. I am eager to leverage my experience to enhance efficiency, strengthen community relationships, and ensure the airport continues to serve as a pivotal resource in the region.”
Known for directing multimillion-dollar airport development projects and blending technology into airport operations, Dahl has also fronted major programs to align with community interests on matters such as aircraft noise abatement, runway/taxiway construction, wildlife influencers, and financial solidity. He holds a pilot license and is a member of the American Association of Airport Executives.
Upon Dahl’s initiation, RMMA will reposition to Jefferson County’s Development and Transportation Department, guided by Director Abel Montoya, who brings 30 years of local government experience to the table. Montoya has worked on various high-profile projects such as the Front Range Airport Master Plan, Colorado Air and Spaceport licensure, and the Denver International Airport noise mitigation program. He said, “We are confident in Mr. Dahl’s leadership and eager to continue working with the community on important issues surrounding RMMA.”
Over the past two and a half years, the airport has functioned within the county’s Strategy, Innovation, and Finance department under Dr. Stephanie Corbo, the CFO. During the time the position remained open, Corbo fulfilled responsibilities as the acting airport director for six months. Under her guidance, RMMA improved noise abatement measures, introduced a protocol to request pilots to utilize the primary runway during nighttime to evade residential districts, purchased a fuel truck to transition to unleaded fuel, and roped in funding from the Federal Aviation administration for a Part 150 Airport Noise Compatibility Study.
Dahl’s tenure as airport director begins June 17. The transition of the airport to Jeffco’s Development and Transportation department is set for June 24.
