Bioscience Companies in Jeffco Ranked by Employees

Bioscience companies occupy a significant role within the local economy, and the latest ranking of these businesses reveals that they continue to grow their workforce. The 2024 list of Bioscience Companies based in Jefferson County, ranked by the number of employees eligible for retirement plans or most recent employee estimate, includes 19 companies.

Leading the list is Terumo BCT, with 2,101 employees eligible for retirement plans. Based in Lakewood, Terumo BCT specializes in products and solutions for blood collection, processing and transfusion.

Highridge Medical ranks second with 337 estimated employees. Established in April 2024 as a spinout from ZimVie’s spine division, the Westminster company focuses on screw and plate implants, fixation systems and other technologies for spine health.

Following at No. 3 is Cerapedics Inc., located in Broomfield, which develops bone repair and regeneration products and has 220 employees eligible for retirement plans.

Employee estimates for the list were sourced from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Form 5500 and LinkedIn.

Other notable companies include Belmar Pharma Solutions, which employs 119 people, and Biointellisense Inc. with 108 employees. Demonstrating remarkable growth, Alio Inc., based in Broomfield, saw a 126% increase in its workforce from 19 to 43 employees according to Form 5500 for 2022.

Jefferson County is home to a growing bioscience industry, comprising of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical device and diagnostics companies that provides more than 8,000 jobs, according to the Jefferson County Economic Development Corp.
