Lunar Outpost Secures Series A Funding to Advance Moon Missions

Lunar Outpost, a Golden-based company specializing in lunar surface mobility and space robotics, has announced the successful completion of a Series A funding round. The round was co-led by Type One Ventures and Industrious Ventures, with additional participation from Promus Ventures.

The capital raised will support Lunar Outpost’s ongoing initiatives, including a contract with NASA for Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services, collaboration with the Australian Government to bolster space exploration, and partnership with the Luxembourg Space Agency to enhance operational capabilities on the Moon and in extreme Earth conditions.

“The momentum Lunar Outpost has achieved in just two years is a testament to the team’s unmatched expertise in advanced spacecraft and robotics solutions, and commitment to driving cislunar innovation forward,” said Justin Cyrus, founder and CEO of Lunar Outpost. “The rise of reliable travel to the Moon is enabling an extended lunar presence and scalable commercialization, with efforts underway to leverage the Moon’s abundant resources.”

Lunar Outpost’s technology aims to establish a sustainable human presence in space, expanding access and innovation on the Moon through its mobility and robotics services. The company adopts a service-based business model to lower the costs associated with interplanetary exploration and infrastructure development.

Since obtaining seed funding in 2022, Lunar Outpost has achieved several milestones, including securing a NASA contract for a human-rated Moon rover, developing software for Mobile Autonomous Robotic Swarms under a STRATFI contract, booking its third commercial lunar rover mission, receiving grants from the Australian Space Agency, and expanding its offices internationally.

“The momentum Lunar Outpost has achieved in just two years is a testament to the team’s unmatched expertise in advanced spacecraft and robotics solutions, and commitment to driving cislunar innovation forward,” said Tarek Waked, founding partner at Type One Ventures and Lunar Outpost board member.

Mason Angel, co-founder and partner at Industrious Ventures, noted that Lunar Outpost is enabling broader access to the lunar surface for commercial purposes, moving beyond technology demonstrations for NASA missions.

Lunar Outpost has multiple upcoming missions to the Moon, including a voyage to the Lunar South Pole as part of Intuitive Machine’s IM-2 mission, which is expected to operate the first commercial rover on a planetary body and facilitate the first sale of space resources in human history.
