Ball Corp. (NYSE: BALL) has announced a minority investment in Sweden-based packaging technology company Meadow. The partnership aims to produce fully recyclable aluminum cans as pre-filled cartridges for personal and home care products.
Broomfield-based Ball will supply cans and ends that will be placed in reusable dispensers. This collaboration comes as Meadow scales up its operations. “Ball is committed to developing low-carbon circular aluminum packaging solutions, and we believe reusable and recyclable packaging plays an important role in the future of personal and home care,” said Jay Billings, president of Ball Growth Ventures at Ball Corp.
Aluminum can be recycled repeatedly without losing quality, making it an ideal material for circular solutions. Meadow’s technology aims to expand the use of fully recyclable aluminum cans beyond beverages to support other product categories.
“With Ball, we can offer global reach for our circular packaging solution, expanding the availability of a cost-efficient, easy-to-use and recyclable pre-fill technology. Together, we are accelerating the adoption of circular packaging among global consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands across multiple categories,” said Victor Ljungberg, CEO of Meadow.
The MEADOW KAPSUL technology is expected to debut in stores in 2025. This innovative solution uses a can as a cartridge, pre-filled with products like soap or shampoo, to be placed in reusable dispensers. It aims to reduce materials and energy usage while optimizing logistics and transportation.
Ball and Meadow will present their innovations at Paris Packaging Week 2025 during the Global Aerosol & Dispensing Forum (ADF) on January 28–29, where MEADOW KAPSUL is also a finalist for the ADF Concept of the Year Award. The companies will co-host a panel titled “Revolutionizing Reuse and Refill: Building a Circular Packaging Ecosystem,” on January 29, discussing the future of sustainable packaging.
Ball Corp. provides aluminum packaging solutions for beverage, personal care and household products. The company employs 16,000 people globally and reported 2023 net sales of $12.06 billion, excluding its divested aerospace business.
Meadow is a Swedish packaging technology start-up founded in 2020, focused on replacing single-use linear packaging with scalable impact solutions.
