Golden-based IPT Well Solutions, in collaboration with Providence Operating and Baker Hughes, completed a successful drilling campaign encompassing nine wells with zero trips. This achievement highlights operational efficiency and performance, with the project featuring challenging well geometries, including high tangents in vertical sections and extended laterals exceeding two miles.
The drilling program accomplished several key metrics: a total of 156,223 feet drilled across the nine wells, an average drill-out to total depth completed in just 3.44 days, and an average rate of penetration of 321 feet per hour. Additionally, the tangent and lateral dogleg severity were maintained at 0.5°/100 ft and 0.57°/100 ft, respectively.
These results were facilitated by the integration of Baker Hughes’ 6.75” AutoTrak Curve RSS and 8.5” PermaForce P505 Drill Bit, along with the engineering oversight of IPT Well Solutions. “This project not only reflects our strong collaboration with Providence Operating and Baker Hughes but also highlights our dedication to optimizing well construction programs in demanding operational contexts,” said Dave Mannon, CEO, IPT Well Solutions.
The zero-trip success of this program showcases the teamwork and alignment of all stakeholders, demonstrating the effectiveness of advanced technologies combined with a systematic engineering approach, the company said. “Zero trip” refers to a drilling process where the need to pull the drill string out of the well for equipment changes or adjustments is minimized or eliminated, improving efficiency and reducing downtime.
