Butterfly Pavilion has named Ryan Welch as its new president and CEO, following a nationwide search. Welch will lead the organization into a new chapter focused on invertebrate research, conservation and education, aiming to protect vital creatures essential to ecosystems globally.
Based in Westminster, Butterfly Pavilion is recognized as a leader in invertebrate studies and education. Under Welch’s guidance, the organization plans to expand its global conservation efforts and engage a diverse audience while working towards a new facility that will serve as a hub for its initiatives.
Welch joins from Rocky Mountain Public Media, where he led a significant capital campaign to establish a new media center. “Ryan brings a powerful combination of visionary, mission-driven leadership, deep commitment to conservation and passion for public engagement,” said Mark Corbett, vice chairperson and treasurer, Board of Directors, Butterfly Pavilion.
Welch has two decades of nonprofit experience, most recently serving as interim president and CEO at Morris Animal Foundation, where he increased revenue and enhanced donor engagement. He also held roles at Rocky Mountain Public Media and The Coca-Cola Co., focusing on strategy and fundraising. Welch holds a journalism degree from the University of Kansas and serves on Colorado State University’s Community Impact Committee for the Veterinary Health System.
Reflecting on his appointment, Welch said, “I’m honored to join Butterfly Pavilion at this transformational moment. Invertebrates are the foundation of life on Earth, and yet they are too often overlooked.”
This change in leadership concludes the tenure of Nathalie Brochu, who served as interim CEO and was key in strengthening the organization’s financial standing and partnerships. Corbett expressed gratitude for Brochu’s contributions during this transition period.
Welch will officially start in his role on May 19, 2025. As Butterfly Pavilion celebrates its 30th anniversary, he emphasized the importance of envisioning the future impact of the organization’s mission.
