Lignetics Group has introduced NaturFil, a wood flour concentrate designed to serve as a greener alternative to traditional fillers in the plastics industry. Engineered from responsibly sourced wood residuals and utilizing patent-pending technology, NaturFil aims to set a new standard in sustainable manufacturing.
This product is targeted at manufacturers seeking cost-effective and sustainable substitutes for petroleum polymers, mineral fillers and alternative bio-fillers. NaturFil enhances the stiffness and dimensional stability of polymer composites and is versatile for use in various industrial applications, including building materials, automotive components, furniture, packaging and agricultural products.
“By transforming wood waste into a premium product, we are empowering industries — from construction, durable goods, automotive, composites and more — with material that enhances performance while significantly reducing environmental footprints,” said Brett Jordan, CEO at Broomfield-based Lignetics Group.
NaturFil is formulated from over 95% wood flour mixed with a polymer, making it easier to disperse and safer to handle compared to conventional wood flour. The product is lighter than traditional mineral fillers, which may help reduce material costs and improve processing speeds.
The use of upcycled wood not only supports sustainable practices but also promotes responsible forestry, the company said. The production process is energy-efficient, contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
Lignetics consulted with experts from Washington State University’s Composite Materials & Engineering Center during the development process, highlighting the advantages of NaturFil over conventional wood flour, including easier handling and integration into existing manufacturing processes.
Lignetics Group operates 29 facilities and sources more than 5.2 billion pounds of wood waste each year. The company focuses on turning this wood waste into sustainable products.
