Mines Alum Launches Endurance Coaching Business

Andrea Gioia, a 2009 Colorado School of Mines graduate, has transitioned from a corporate executive in the software industry to the owner of Sunshine Wellness Adventures, an athletic performance business focused on triathlon coaching and wellness camps.

Gioia, who previously placed second in the female category at the 2022 Alpha Win Hudson Valley Triathlon, found her passion for endurance sports while managing the stresses of her corporate career. She initially organized triathlons for friends and family, which sparked her interest in coaching others to enhance their performance.

After undergoing three hip surgeries, Gioia reassessed her career goals and launched Sunshine Wellness Adventures. The business combines physical training with wellness sessions focusing on mental resilience, nutrition, and recovery techniques.

Gioia emphasizes the problem-solving skills she gained from her education at Mines, which continue to aid her in managing the challenges of business ownership. “Every time I host a triathlon, something unexpected comes up,” she said, reflecting on the unanticipated issues that arise during events.
