CSL Plasma and Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies (Terumo BCT) have completed the nationwide rollout of a new plasma donation system across CSL Plasma centers in the United States. This milestone aims to enhance donor care and improve access to plasma-derived therapies for patients in need.
The Rika Plasma Donation System, which has been installed in more than 300 CSL Plasma locations, is designed to increase the efficiency and comfort of plasma donation. It allows for quicker procedures and personalized collection based on donor characteristics, potentially collecting up to 1,000 mL of plasma in under 35 minutes.
With this new technology, the donation process minimizes the amount of blood outside the body, contributing to greater comfort for donors and allowing for the return of blood and plasma if necessary. This transformation is expected to yield more plasma from each donation, which is crucial as 1,200 donations are required each year to treat an individual with severe hemophilia, among other conditions.
The rollout was completed in June 2025.
