Gogo Advances 5G Ground Connectivity Testing

Gogo Inc. is in the final phases of testing its next-generation 5G air-to-ground technology. Initial results indicate that the technology meets and exceeds expected performance levels, bringing Broomfield-based Gogo closer to providing new broadband speeds for customers across North America.

The new service aims to provide reliable and cost-effective connectivity similar to that of home and office internet. Current testing uses the AVANCE LX5 platform and MB13 antennas, achieving peak speeds of up to 80 Mbps. These capabilities support functions like streaming and video conferencing on multiple devices.

Chris Moore, CEO of Gogo, said, “With these outcomes, we’re resetting expectations around former ATG performance and are excited that we will be delivering a high-speed service that delivers the same type of experience you’d expect from an internet service at home or in the office.” Flight testing is anticipated to start in early Q4 following completion of terrestrial tests.

The company is also focusing on the military and government sector, utilizing its 5G system to enhance communications reliability. More than 300 private aircraft are prepped to connect to Gogo’s 5G network, which is designed specifically for business aviation users to ensure uninterrupted service.

Additionally, Gogo has secured 33 contracts covering various aircraft types within the region, of which 28 are already completed. The installation process of the 5G system is facilitated through Gogo’s maintenance network and is expected to take about two weeks.
