Hiring Trends Diverge Across Jefferson County

A review of the Jeffco 500 Hiring Index, updated today, for the six-month period ending in September 2025 reveals a stable, slightly positive hiring climate for the county’s top businesses, yet this top-line stability masks significant divergence among local municipalities. While the overall county index hovered consistently around 30%, hiring activity was far from uniform across the region.

Westminster and Broomfield are the clear economic engines, consistently outpacing the county average. Westminster, in particular, demonstrated robust growth, with its hiring index climbing from 40% in April to over 45% by September. Broomfield also showed a strong upward trend, ending the period with approximately 42% of its top firms actively hiring. This sustained, high-level activity suggests a particularly vigorous business environment in these northern cities.

In contrast, several other municipalities showed signs of stagnation or decline. Most notably, Evergreen experienced a steady six-month decline, with its hiring index falling from 20% to just over 15%. Lakewood and Littleton tracked the county average more closely but remained slightly below it, finishing the period with a modest downturn to around 27.5%.

The data indicates that while Jefferson County's overall economic health appears steady, the opportunities and growth are not evenly distributed. The strong performance in Westminster and Broomfield is pulling the county-wide average up, concealing underlying weakness in other areas. For businesses and job seekers, this highlights a clear geographic concentration of economic momentum within the county.
