Jefferson County has announced Aaron Roth as the new Parks and Open Space Director, following the retirement of Tom Hoby at the end of the year. This decision comes after a comprehensive recruitment process to fill the position.
Roth brings over 20 years of leadership experience in public land management, having most recently served as the Deputy Regional Director for the National Park Service. In this role, he provided strategic oversight for national parks across eight states, including notable locations such as Rocky Mountain National Park and Great Sand Dunes.
The monthly salary reported for the Parks Director position on Jeffco’s 2024 mid-year salaries report was $15,274.71 for the month of June or $183,296.52 annually.
Jefferson County Manager Joe Kerby expressed confidence in Roth’s abilities, saying, “Our public lands are very important to our community and environment, and we are confident in Aaron’s leadership to continue a legacy of excellence in Jeffco.” Kerby acknowledged Hoby’s contributions over his 15-year tenure and emphasized the department’s bright future.
Roth is recognized for his collaborative leadership style and commitment to the organization’s mission. As a longtime resident of Lakewood with his family, he frequently visits the county’s Open Space Parks. Roth will officially start his role on December 29.
The Jefferson County Parks and Open Space system encompasses more than 58,000 acres, 27 parks, and a trail network exceeding 269 miles.
