Colorado Christian University announced that Steve Taylor, dean and professor in the School of Music, will retire at the end of the academic year. This retirement marks over two decades of leadership as dean and more than four decades of service to the university.
Since joining the faculty, Taylor has played a significant role in shaping the artistic direction and academic strength of the music program, while fostering a Christ-centered identity. He was appointed dean in 2006 and has guided the School of Music through various challenges, mentoring faculty members and investing in the development of students as musicians and Christian leaders.
Known for his baritone performances in opera and musical theatre, Taylor emphasized the integration of faith and artistry within the curriculum, ensuring that musical training aligns with the university’s mission.
CCU President Eric Hogue commented on Taylor’s legacy, stating, “Steve Taylor’s legacy at CCU is one of faithful service, artistic excellence, and unwavering commitment to Christ-centered higher education. For decades, he has shaped generations of students and strengthened the School of Music in ways that will endure for years to come.”
Reflecting on his time at CCU, Taylor expressed gratitude for his experiences, saying, “It has been one of the great honors of my life to teach, lead, and make music alongside such gifted students and colleagues. My students, graduates, faculty, staff, and colleagues have been the greatest inspiration and blessing I could’ve ever had — they have been my life-giving joy! I am indeed a grateful man to have shared life, passion, and ministry with all of them.” He added that the School of Music has always been about more than performance; it is also about formation.
Taylor’s influence on Colorado Christian University and his impact on countless students will continue to be a defining part of the School of Music as it pursues artistic excellence rooted in faith.
