Wheat Ridge Council Appoints New City Clerk

The Wheat Ridge City Council has appointed Janeece Hoppe as the new city clerk, filling the vacancy left by the late Steve Kirkpatrick. Hoppe, who has served over a decade on the council, was selected unanimously following a public application and interview process. She was the sole applicant for the position after a recent city ballot measure aimed at eliminating the elected clerk role did not pass.

During a study session, Hoppe outlined her plans to clarify operational roles within the city clerk’s office, create professional boundaries to separate administrative functions from political issues, and enhance voter education, particularly among high school students. Hoppe is known for her community leadership in Wheat Ridge, supporting initiatives in economic development, housing, and community improvement.

“Janeece brings deep knowledge of municipal government and an ongoing commitment to civic participation,” said Mayor Korey Stites. “Her experience and vision for the clerk’s office will strengthen our city’s administrative functions and support transparent, professional operations.”

The appointed clerk will serve until the next regular municipal election, when voters will choose a candidate to complete the term.
