
In a comprehensive assessment of higher education institutions within Jefferson County, the latest data from the U.S. Department of Education has unveiled the rankings of nine local colleges and universities, shedding light on the evolving educational landscape.
Once again, Lakewood-based Colorado Christian University has secured the top position on the list, maintaining its status as the leading institution in the county in terms of number of students. With a student count of 8,964 in 2022, the university witnessed a notable increase from the previous year, where it accommodated 8,472 students.
Following closely behind is Colorado School of Mines, renowned for its focus on engineering and applied sciences. The institution recorded a substantial student population of 7,403 in the same year, solidifying its position as a prominent educational hub within the county. Red Rocks Community College secured the third spot on the rankings, serving as a vital resource for diverse educational opportunities with a student body of 6,470.
Among the notable trends highlighted in the rankings is the remarkable growth of smaller institutions. The Colorado School of Healing Arts experienced a significant surge in its student tally, witnessing an increase of 150%, from 22 to 55 students. Similarly, the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology and the Paul Mitchell School-Denver maintained respectable student bases of 284 and 252, respectively.
However, amidst the rankings, one notable absence is the Colorado Media School, which relocated its local campus from Lakewood to Denver, resulting in its exclusion from this year’s list.
Beyond student counts, the rankings also shed light on the increasing remuneration for educators within Jefferson County. The average faculty salary experienced a notable surge of 20.7% in 2022, rising from $61,414 to $74,113. This upward trend reflects a commitment to attracting and retaining top talent within the academic sector.
