Hochtief, the parent company of Broomfield-based Flatiron Construction Corp., has promoted Javier Sevilla from COO to the position of CEO. The decision confirms the Flatiron executive team’s strength as the company focuses on growth markets and retains its leadership in heavy civil construction.
Under the guidance of industry-leading teams, innovative technologies and long-established partnerships, Flatiron’s growth in North America continues strongly. Currently, the company ranks among the Engineering News-Record’s top 50 out of 400 contractors. Its leadership in constructing highways, rails, transits, bridges and aviation facilities is being expanded to the water and wastewater treatment arena, flood protection, sustainable mobility and resiliency.
“Javier is a valued, visionary leader in the Hochtief family of companies. I am pleased to have him assume the CEO role at Flatiron,” said Juan Santamaria, CEO of Hochtief AG. “Javier has played a pivotal role transforming the company to become a leader in collaborative-delivery project contracts — achieving effective risk mitigation and providing exceptional value to clients. Under his leadership, Flatiron has emerged as a market leader and its backlog has reached historic highs — with more than half of that backlog attributable to collaborative-delivery contracts.”
In recent years, Flatiron has gained recognition for its market leadership. Achievements include a Top 10 Canadian contractor rank, securing four positions in the 2023 Roads & Bridges Top 10 Roads and Top 10 Bridges list, being named the 2023 Engineering News-Record Mountain States Contractor of the Year, and clinching the top spot for its safety program in the 2022 Associated General Contractors of America evaluation.
Prior to his appointment as Flatiron’s COO in 2013, Sevilla served as CEO at Pulice Construction, a U.S.-based heavy civil general engineering contractor and construction management firm. His career began in Spain, initially at project level for Dragados, a globally recognized infrastructure construction company. He later became district manager for Dragados in Spain’s Catalonia region. Sevilla holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Granada in Spain.
