Jeffco Hospitals: 2024 Rankings Reveal Key Changes

The latest list of Jefferson County hospitals highlights eight key facilities in the local area. Facilities are ranked on the number of certified beds reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for the fourth quarter of 2023.

CommonSpirit – St. Anthony Hospital tops the list with the highest number of certified beds, totaling 593. This makes it the most bed-equipped hospital in Jefferson County for 2023.

Lutheran Medical Center ranks second with 338 certified beds, while West Pines Behavioral Health is third with 80 certified beds.

Lutheran Medical Center is the only facility to report a decrease in certified beds, down 7.1% from 364 in 2022 to 338 in 2023. The hospital is preparing to open a new $680 million facility on Aug. 3. This state-of-the-art hospital will enhance medical services and patient care. Following the opening, acute hospital services at the current site will cease, although the existing campus will continue to host Intermountain Health’s hospice program and is expected to be redeveloped. The new Lutheran Hospital campus will be located at 12911 West 40th Ave.

Additionally, there have been significant management changes. St. Anthony Hospital, previously managed by Centura Health, is now under CommonSpirit Health’s stewardship as of August 2023. CommonSpirit, a major faith-based nonprofit health system in the U.S., has taken over the management of 20 hospitals and over 240 care sites across Colorado, Kansas, and Utah from Centura Health. This transition also includes OrthoColorado Hospital in Lakewood, which is ranked fifth on the list.

Centura Health, established in 1996, had collaborated with AdventHealth and CommonSpirit Health for 27 years under a shared management model before the recent split, allowing each system to independently manage its facilities.
