The ATL Airport Community Improvement Districts announced the selection of Atlanta Personal Rapid Transit Solutions (APRTS) for the Automated Transit Network (ATN) Demonstration Pilot project.
APRTS, a partnership between ACS Infrastructure, Broomfield-based Flatiron Construction, ICE Engineering and Glydways, aims to include Disadvantaged Business Enterprise participation. APRTS will implement Glydways’ personal rapid transit (PRT) system for the project.
“This project has immense potential to revolutionize future mobility options in the airport area,” stated Steve Berman, Airport South Board Chair.
The Demonstration Pilot will be located at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, providing a link between the ATL SkyTrain and the Georgia International Convention Center. This Gateway Center Campus location will allow local transportation officials, residents, visitors and travelers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to experience this innovative transit solution.
Funding for the nearly half-mile Demonstration Pilot will be supported by a significant contribution from MARTA, along with APRTS co-investments.
ATN features automated vehicles on a dedicated guideway designed for on-demand services, connecting passengers to key urban locations efficiently and flexibly. PRT involves small, autonomous vehicles transporting passengers individually or in small groups directly to their destinations without stops, similar to an automated taxi service at a public transit cost.
“This project is a game changer,” stated Robb Pitts, chairman of Fulton County. It is part of AACIDs’ broader effort to enhance transportation mobility throughout South Metro Atlanta.
