The 2024 list of accounting firms based in Jefferson County, ranked by the number of employees eligible for retirement plans, reveals significant insights into the local industry landscape. The list includes 26 firms providing CPAs and other accounting services, with employee estimates sourced from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Form 5500 and LinkedIn.
Leading the list is American Truck Business Services LLC, which boasts 92 employees. The Golden firm provides bookkeeping, accounting, tax and consulting services for owner operator truck drivers, serving more than 150,000 truck driver businesses.
Close behind is Westminster-based Larson Financial Inc., ranking second with 34 employees. In the third spot is BC Tax LLC, also in Westminster, employing 31 individuals.
Several shifts in employment have occurred over the past year. For instance, CPA Solutions LLC, headquartered in Lakewood, saw a 33% increase in the number of employees listed on IRS Form 5500 2022, rising from 6 to 8 employees.
Other significant mentions include Martillaro Raub and Associates with 21 employees, McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates PC with 16 employees, and the Allen Group PC standing at 14 employees.
Several firms from last year’s rankings are no longer listed. B&G Financial Inc. has relocated to Firestone, while John R. Bates CPA is now based in Larkspur.
Additionally, in May 2024, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged Lakewood’s BF Borgers CPA PC and owner Benjamin F. Borgers with fraud for failing to meet Public Company Accounting Oversight Board standards in more than 1,500 filings. To settle the SEC’s charges, BF Borgers agreed to pay a $12 million civil penalty and Benjamin Borgers agreed to a $2 million civil penalty, along with permanent suspension from accounting practices.
