Vail Resorts, the Town of Vail and East West Partners have partnered to develop the West Lionshead area into a fourth base village at Vail Mountain. The new base village will be located where the Ever Vail project was previously planned.
The base village will provide access to Vail’s 5,317 acres of terrain and is expected to include new lodging, restaurants, boutiques and skier services. It will also offer community benefits like workforce housing, public spaces, transit and parking.
The Vail Town Council voted unanimously in favor of the partnership and the creation of a new master plan for the West Lionshead base village development. The Town Council will revise the Town’s Strategic Plan to highlight West Lionshead as a priority for improving the resort experience and benefiting the community.
Vail will collaborate with Vail Resorts and East West Partners on community engagement to create the vision and master plan for the West Lionshead area. The partnership will include incremental workforce housing, prompting Vail Resorts to drop its appeal against the Town of Vail’s condemnation of its East Vail property intended for this housing project.
East West Partners will lead the design and community engagement for the West Lionshead development. Following the completion of the master plan, the next step will involve pursuing the entitlement process.
The Town of Vail, Vail Resorts and East West Partners aim for a significant investment in the development of the West Lionshead base village. Travis Coggin, Mayor of the Town of Vail, said, “It is a shared goal of the Town of Vail, Vail Resorts and East West Partners to ensure our town remains a top destination for guests and a vibrant community for the residents who create the welcoming and unique atmosphere Vail is known for.”
The development will include a community engagement process starting this fall, featuring open houses for community input on the initiative’s vision, design and planning. The project will also be subject to applicable entitlement and approval processes.
