CPI Card Swipes Eco-Focused Inno Award

LITTLETON, CO – (Nov. 12, 2024) — CPI Card Group, a Jeffco-based payments technology company, has been recognized for its eco-focus in payment card manufacturing by the Denver Business Journal in this year’s Inno Awards. The company is dedicated to creating a more responsible banking industry through its sustainable card solutions.

Max Michieli, CPI’s Director of Sustainability, was acknowledged in the publication for leading the efforts to reduce first-use plastics and transition to more sustainable options in the company’s card portfolio. “We’re thrilled to be honored among Colorado’s most innovative companies that are using out-of-the-box thinking to change industries for the better,” said Michieli. “I would like to congratulate the entire CPI team for embracing our sustainability journey and working to manufacture more eco-focused cards that benefit our customers, consumers, and supplier partners alike.”

CPI’s offerings include seven card build variations, two of which are made with recycled materials: a payment card featuring recovered ocean-bound plastic and a rPVC card product aimed at environmentally conscious consumers. To date, CPI has sold over 100 million eco-focused cards.

The development of these products faced challenges, particularly in working with high-density ocean-bound plastic, which traditionally did not bond well with inks and colorants. Michieli and his team engineered a way to incorporate this material, creating new market opportunities and benefiting waste-picker communities through expanded recycling income.

As CPI’s eco-focused product lines have grown, its vendors are now providing more recycled products, not just to fulfill CPI’s orders, but to serve the broader payment card industry. “We’re proud of the work our team has done to innovate and create better, more tailored solutions for our customers,” Michieli added. “We look forward to expanding our suite of card options with new eco-focused materials to address a variety of design and price needs. Whatever type of card you want, CPI can meet your needs.”

CPI was one of ten Colorado companies recognized this year for creating revolutionary solutions that impact their industries.
