Vail Resorts Kicks Off 2024-25 Ski Season

Snow has fallen this week across all regions of Broomfield-based Vail Resorts’ Northern Hemisphere operations, signaling the start of winter and the 2024-25 ski season. Whistler Blackcomb, North America’s largest ski resort, opened early today with nearly 90 inches of snow since Nov. 1.

In addition to Whistler, resorts such as Vail, Breckenridge and Andermatt-Sedrun in Switzerland have also received significant early season snowfall, with snow currently falling at Seven Springs in Pennsylvania. By Nov. 22, seven resorts will be open on the Vail Resorts’ Epic Pass, offering access to over 3,000 acres of skiing ahead of Thanksgiving.

Whistler Blackcomb opened with over 620 acres available, expecting to expand to more than 1,935 acres by the end of the week. Another 11 inches of snow is forecasted for Whistler through the weekend, contributing to a base depth of 51 inches. Heavenly Ski Resort and Northstar California Resort also opened early this week due to natural snowfall and favorable snowmaking conditions.

In the Rockies, Keystone Resort, Breckenridge Ski Resort and Vail Mountain are now open. Vail Mountain received one foot of snow earlier this week, and snow is predicted for Colorado and Utah. Park City Mountain, which is scheduled to open Nov. 22, has a 10-day forecast of 30 inches of snow. Crested Butte Mountain Resort and Beaver Creek Resort are set to open on Nov. 27.

In the East, Seven Springs Mountain Resort started receiving snow, while snowmakers at other Eastern resorts are prepared to take advantage of cold temperatures.

European resorts Andermatt-Sedrun and Crans-Montana also reported snowfall this week, with 16-30 inches recorded over the past five days. These resorts are set for a strong start to winter, with access to additional partner destinations in Austria, Italy, France, and Switzerland through the Epic Pass.
