Mines Celebrates $550M Community Support

On April 10, 2025, the Colorado School of Mines marked a significant milestone by reaching $550 million in community support through the Campaign for MINES@150. This campaign is designed to enhance opportunities for current and future students.

The Spring 2025 Campaign Impact Report, titled You Make Mines, highlights the contributions of various individuals, foundations, and companies that have invested in the university’s initiatives. It features stories of donors, students, faculty members, and staff.

Notable highlights in the report include:

  • Programs cultivating future leaders, featuring three current and past Grewcock Scholars.
  • The Ben Fryrear Chairs for Innovation and Excellence, which provide financial support to faculty for advancements in various programs.
  • A $5 million investment from a Mines physics graduate to support innovative solutions to critical challenges and in honor of his late wife.
  • Contributions from three softball alumni to replace the grass softball field with turf.
  • Lori Tunstall, a Mines assistant professor who launched her company ZeroTwelve using resources from a startup incubator.
  • An alumni donation to the Mines Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem from a Mines alum now serving as CEO of a notable T-shirt company.
  • A scholarship in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering aimed at attracting undergraduate students.
  • A significant corporate gift to modernize a facility serving thousands of students, faculty, and visitors annually.
  • Support for the Engineering and Technology Management master’s degree initiated by an alum who advanced his career with his Mines degree.
  • Programs funded by industry support designed to help students excel in areas where they may have lacked access to advanced math and science education.
