RMCAD Achieves Reaccreditation from Higher Learning Commission

Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design (RMCAD) in Lakewood secured its reaccreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which extends the college’s accredited status for another 10 years. This milestone follows a thorough evaluation of RMCAD’s operations and academic quality, culminating in an onsite visit in the spring of 2025.

Accreditation by the HLC is a significant validation of an institution’s quality assurance, ensuring it meets stringent educational standards. The HLC peer review team met with hundreds of RMCAD students, faculty and staff during their visit, affirming the college’s dedication to its mission as a community-oriented learning environment. The review team noted, “RMCAD is mission-centered, acts with integrity, provides quality learning experiences for students, and uses good practices to ensure ongoing quality.”

The college has also been invited to join HLC’s Open Pathway, a designation for institutions committed to continuous improvement, highlighting RMCAD’s dedication to innovation and educational advancement.

Amy Smith, senior vice president of academic affairs and provost, said, “Accreditation is a formal validation of RMCAD’s unwavering commitment to educational excellence and student success. It confirms that we are providing a high-quality, valuable education that prepares students for meaningful careers.”

Founded in 1963, RMCAD has maintained its accreditation by the HLC since 2020 and will begin preparations for its next evaluation in 2034-2035.
