Trimble Scales Up Support for Global Engineering Initiatives

Trimble Inc. has enhanced its partnership with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) International by providing a significant financial contribution, hardware, software and training for international projects. This initiative broadens Trimble’s longstanding support for EWB’s mission in the U.S., which includes technology donations and grants for disaster relief and education initiatives.

The first project of this expanded collaboration focuses on critical infrastructure in Eastern Uganda, where up to 70% of the population lacks access to essential services. The project aims to unlock local government funding for these services, which is currently inaccessible due to inadequate data and engineering resources.

“Working with Trimble can help unlock these funds and deliver essential master plans, financial models and engineering skills at the required scale,” said Peter Nzabanita of EWB East Africa.

The initiative will proceed in three phases, beginning with technical baseline surveys, infrastructure mapping, and the recruitment of local youth enumerators for a population census. Subsequent phases will include feasibility audits, community co-design efforts, and financial modeling to secure commercial investments.

Another key aspect of the project is a “Buildathon” event to facilitate collaboration between Trimble, clients, and partners, focusing on local capacity building. “The critical infrastructure project in Eastern Uganda marks an ideal commencement for the expanded collaboration between Trimble and the Engineers Without Borders network,” said Sumele Adelana, product marketing leader for Trimble.
