Xcel: High Winds Prompt Proactive Power Outages, Closures

Jefferson County offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 17, due to anticipated power outages. Xcel Energy has announced a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) to mitigate the risk of wildfires and ensure public safety. Power will be turned off across the Golden Campus, Evergreen, and other areas within the county.

As a result, Jeffco Public Schools will also be closed on December 17. School officials have consulted with Xcel Energy about the PSPS and have determined that the potential disruptions would pose a safety risk to students, families, and staff. School leaders and state officials were involved in the decision-making process. All childcare programs, after-school activities, and meetings at school facilities are canceled.

Transportation services for Jeffco Public Schools will not be provided. Employees, with the exception of essential personnel, are advised not to report to work. Access to any building must be approved by security dispatch prior to entry. A return to normal school operations is planned for Thursday, December 18, pending improvements in weather conditions. Further updates will be communicated as the situation develops.
