The Colorado DMV is set to implement a statewide system upgrade in February 2026 to modernize online services and enhance security and customer experience. This upgrade will impact both online and in-person DMV services, rendering them temporarily unavailable during specific dates.
Starting Friday, February 13, all services will go offline at the end of the business day. The following schedule is as follows:
- February 14: All online and kiosk services unavailable; all offices closed.
- February 15: All online and kiosk services unavailable; all offices closed.
- February 16: All online and kiosk services unavailable; all offices closed for Presidents’ Day.
- February 17: All online and kiosk services available; all offices closed for staff training and final system checks.
- February 18-19: All online and kiosk services available; offices open with limited services and appointments.
The DMV advises customers to complete driver and vehicle transactions early to avoid delays. Those planning to purchase a vehicle during December or early January should register promptly to avoid missing deadlines that may fall during the upgrade period.
Transactions will not be processed online during the downtime, and in-person services will be limited on February 18-19. Late fees will apply for any missed deadlines.
This upgrade is essential to replace an outdated system with a modern platform that aims to improve usability on all devices, enhance security, reduce transaction times, and streamline the overall customer experience.
