Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) has launched a new Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program, allowing students to complete their nursing education on campus without transferring to another institution. Applications for the fall 2026 cohort are currently open.
Previously, students pursuing nursing at RRCC had to finish their studies at other colleges, but with the introduction of this program in August 2025, 16 students became the first cohort to stay on campus. Graduates will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) upon completing their degrees.
The need for qualified nurses in Colorado is significant, with a projected employment growth of 18% for registered nurses from 2022 to 2032. There are expected to be around 4,140 average annual job openings, alongside rising demand for nurse practitioners and nursing instructors, with projected increases of 56% and 36%, respectively.
The new program provides a valuable option for local students looking to pursue nursing careers without having to transfer, making it particularly convenient for those who have already completed prerequisite courses at RRCC.
Students like Ariana Lazo and Sebastian Roesinger have expressed interest in the program. Lazo, a mother of five and a Certified Doula, was drawn to the chance to stay at RRCC to pursue her nursing education. Roesinger, who shifted his career focus after personal experiences in healthcare, appreciated the program’s affordability and local accessibility.
The program includes 750 hours of clinical experience, essential for preparing students for RN licensure. RRCC partners with several Denver-area hospitals, providing students with diverse opportunities for hands-on learning in various healthcare settings.
Students interested in this nursing program can find additional information about admissions requirements and application deadlines on RRCC’s website.
