The Department of War has announced a $30 million contract modification for Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems division, centered in Littleton. The award ensures the continued evolution and support of the Radiant Mercury (RADMERC) system, a critical cross-domain technology used to safeguard the transfer of sensitive data across various security levels.
The modification increases the total estimated value of the existing contract from approximately $104 million to $134 million.
Securing the Digital Border
At the heart of the contract is the RADMERC system. In an era of heightened cyber warfare, the U.S. Navy and other federal agencies rely on this technology to act as a secure bridge between classified and unclassified networks. The RADMERC software functions as a sophisticated filter, ensuring that when data moves between security domains, it is properly sanitized and protected against leaks or unauthorized access.
Comprehensive Local Support
The work performed at the Littleton facility will cover the full lifecycle of the RADMERC systems, including:
- Modernization and Sustainment: Updating hardware and software to meet emerging cyber threats.
- Program Management: Oversight of system deployment across the fleet and global agencies.
- Logistics and Training: Providing the personnel and expertise to ensure military operators can utilize the systems effectively in the field.
- Security Authorization: Ensuring the systems meet the stringent security standards required by the National Security Agency.
Contract Specifics
The Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific in San Diego serves as the contracting activity for this award. While the modification provides the framework and funding ceiling for the work, the Department of Defense noted that no funds were obligated at the time of the award. Instead, capital will be committed as individual delivery orders are issued.
The current performance period for the contract is slated to run through September 30, 2029. This announcement reinforces the Denver metro area’s footprint as a hub for national defense and high-tech cybersecurity engineering.
