Jefferson County Launches New Records Request Platform

Jefferson County has introduced a new online platform for submitting open records requests, called NextRequest. Launched on July 7, this centralized portal allows users to submit and track their requests, access records and receive updates, all while reducing the use of paper and email.

The platform enhances internal workflows, routes requests more efficiently and ensures compliance with communication tracking, the county said. To assist community members with accessibility needs, staff will be available for help, and written requests can still be sent via mail.

Public Affairs Director Cassie Pearce noted, “We’ve seen a significant increase in open records requests in recent years. NextRequest will help streamline our internal process and improve turnaround times.” In 2024, the county received more than 640 records requests, an increase from 440 in 2023, not including additional CORA requests made to the Clerk & Recorder or the Jefferson County Public Library.
