PharmaJet, based in Golden, has announced that its needle-free injection system will be used to deliver approximately 1.4 million doses of polio vaccine in Nigeria. This initiative is part of a campaign targeting children under five in the Sokoto region, as the country continues to battle outbreaks of vaccine-derived poliovirus.
The deployment in Nigeria follows the successful supply of over 20 million needle-free injections for polio vaccination in several countries including Pakistan, Nigeria, Afghanistan, and Somalia. The Tropis system has been shown to enhance vaccination coverage and speed while also reducing costs.
Master Trainers conducted training sessions in nine local government regions of Nigeria in early April to prepare healthcare workers for this vaccination campaign. The training included practice techniques using a rubber ball to simulate injections.
The Nigerian government is committed to eliminating poliovirus transmission by 2030 and has integrated vaccination efforts with broader health initiatives through community outreach. The needle-free delivery method is particularly beneficial in resource-limited settings, allowing non-traditional healthcare workers to effectively carry out vaccinations.
PharmaJet’s CEO noted the company’s ongoing support for polio vaccination campaigns in various countries and highlighted the positive impact of needle-free delivery on operational efficiency and vaccine accessibility.
