The City of Arvada has been awarded a $100,000 Housing Grant from the Colorado Gives Foundation. The grant aims to assist nonprofit organizations and government entities in Jefferson County in expanding affordable housing options and providing transitional housing for individuals exiting homelessness.
The City’s Homelessness Response team will use the funds to sustain transitional housing and support services at the Suburban Studios extended-stay hotel. This program, initially funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, offers temporary shelter and case management for residents facing homelessness.
“The Suburban Studios program has been changing lives for people experiencing housing insecurity in Arvada,” said Lynette Badasarian, the City’s Homelessness Program Manager. “This grant means we can continue to utilize that transformative resource in the citywide effort to reduce homelessness.”
In collaboration with multiple organizations, including Mission Arvada—which also received a $100,000 grant—this initiative has shown progress. Since January 2025, 125 individuals have successfully transitioned from the Suburban Studios program into housing.
Badasarian highlighted the program’s benefits, stating, “Suburban gives people stability, along with accountability and help in areas like career coaching, housing navigation, and peer support to help them get back on their feet.” Many participants move into apartments without vouchers due to the support they receive.
The Suburban Studios initiative is part of Arvada’s broader strategy to address homelessness, with a City goal of helping 65 individuals in Olde Town Arvada secure housing by the end of 2026. City Manager Don Wick remarked, “Having an option like Suburban Studios available makes meeting that aspiration attainable for the City and our community partners.”
To date, Mission Arvada, Family Tree, Safeside Recovery, and other organizations have assisted 25 individuals in Olde Town into housing, along with 14 who transitioned off the street into a 24/7 shelter.
