Golden-Morrison Westracks shuttle to debut this month

Jefferson County is set to launch the Westracks Shuttle Pilot Program, a seasonal transit service aimed at enhancing access to outdoor recreation and cultural sites in the central foothills west of Denver. This initiative is part of a collaboration with several organizations, including Aramark, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and the City and County of Denver.

The Westracks shuttle was first proposed in 2023 by Jefferson County Commissioner Andy Kerr and Denver Councilmember Darrell Watson. The project represents a regional effort to improve mobility, ensure equitable access, and lessen environmental impacts in heavily trafficked recreational areas.

Starting Memorial Day weekend in 2026, the free shuttle will operate on weekends and holidays through Labor Day, running every 15 minutes from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Key stops along the route include the Jefferson County Government Center/RTD Golden Station, Matthews/Winters Park, Dinosaur Ridge, Downtown Morrison, and the Morrison Natural History Museum.

“This project is about more than just transportation—it’s about making our incredible natural resources accessible to everyone, reducing traffic and emissions, and supporting local economies,” said Commissioner Kerr. Aaron Roth, Jefferson County Director of Parks & Open Space, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that access to outdoor spaces should not rely on vehicle ownership or parking struggles.

The shuttle service will operate during the 2026 summer season, with plans to evaluate its ridership, benefits to the community, and potential for future expansions.

To celebrate the launch, an event will be held on May 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at various Westracks stops, featuring activities such as giveaways, music, scavenger hunts, and the opening of the Deep Time Detour at Dinosaur Ridge.
