Butterfly Pavilion, Westminster Partner for Expansion Project

Butterfly Pavilion and the City of Westminster have entered into a transformative agreement to keep the Butterfly Pavilion in the area and initiate a phased renovation and expansion. This partnership aims to develop a state-of-the-art campus focusing on invertebrate research, conservation, education and immersive guest experiences.

Mark Corbett, board chair of Butterfly Pavilion, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership is a bold step toward the future. It’s about creating something visionary, not just for Butterfly Pavilion, but for Westminster and the entire region.”

The project intends to establish Westminster as a global hub for invertebrate education and conservation, which is critical as invertebrates are essential to healthy ecosystems but often overlooked.

Westminster Mayor Nancy McNally highlighted the long-standing role of Butterfly Pavilion in the community, noting, “This new chapter ensures that families who live, work and play in Westminster will continue to have access to one of the most unique, inspiring places in the country.”

Planning is already underway for a long-term strategy that will facilitate funding and establish a robust institution dedicated to protecting invertebrates and their habitats. “With thoughtful planning and deep community support, the expanded Butterfly Pavilion will stand as a place where science meets storytelling, conservation becomes action, and small wonders lead to big change,” said Welch.
